Baa, baa, black sheep . . .

Have you any wool?

Yessir, yessir, TWO bags full!

These are my first raw fleeces, from two Icelandic sheep named Carry and Alle. The fleeces were already very clean, but they still get a bath.

They are currently making my hall bathroom smell all sheepy while soaking in some hot water and Dawn dish soap. Once they're clean, I'm going to have to figure out where the cats won't try to attack them while drying. :p

Whoo hoo! And isn't washing a fleece fun? I love the sheepy smell and then picking and combing the locks. Enjoy!

I'll have to card it (which is like brushing it.) I just ordered my hand carders yesterday. (Way to think ahead, huh?) So after that is done, I'll start spinning it. :) I'm going to aim for a DK weight, and I should end up for enough to make a sweater. It is such a pretty deep black! The one sheep had a blond spot. lol. Somehow that just charms me. Maybe because my oldest daughter has almost black hair with one tiny blond lock in the back.

Carry and Alle!?!?! I know them!!!! ROFL

Ah, the beauty of black wool. Much coveted as it's quite rare in Iceland where most sheep are white.
Enjoy your wool and show us progress pix of how you transform it into a sweater.

Nice color! Enjoy your processing. You're made of sterner stuff than I am, for sure.

EWWWWWWW

Just don't hang it on the bushes to dry...every bird in the neighborhood will have wool insulated nests. Don't ask me how I know this--just trust me...

You'll have to bring some of your spun fun to Twist so we can drool!
